The Co-op Stand with the Black Community

The Board of Rogers Park Food Coop stands in solidarity with the Black community whose trauma, agony, and loss of Black lives most recently and across decades, indeed centuries, is a travesty of injustice. The systemic nature of racism is deep and profound. We denounce the racism and white supremacy that continues to plague this nation that includes our local communities.
We pledge to our Rogers Park Food Coop community that we will strive to engage actively in intentional discussions with owners and wider communities about the historical and institutionalized disenfranchisement of Black voices and persons of color.  We are governed by Principle #7 of the International Cooperative Principles that states that our strength lies in our concern for the community. We recognize the care we must intentionally take to create and sustain change within ourselves, the Rogers Park Food Coop, and our individual and collective communities.
We pledge to do the work required to be anti-racist, and that means listening, learning, and taking action.  We remain committed to a business model that challenges capitalism and racist hierarchical ideals that are a part of it.  We welcome feedback, critique, and suggestions for actions. Please keep an eye out for further communications on our website, via email, and on our Social Media pages.
In Solidarity,
RPFC Board of Directors
