Business Owners

Local businesses are able to join in as Co-op Owners, with all the same benefits and voting privileges as household Owners. Purchasing a Ownership share for your business sends a powerful message to our community: Local businesses are building a strong local economy through cooperation.

Owner Testimonials

We joined the co-op because of our experience of the positive benefits and community contributions of this kind of operation during our days in Berkeley, CA, when a significant co-op began there. We support the mission and want to aid in its success.

Jean and Larry

Murphy’s YoFresh Café, Owner #713

I joined the co-op because it is a creative venture that encourages community participation and strengthens the community. It is positively future oriented.

Alphonsus Ntamere

Unan Imports, Owner #135

I joined the Co-op because I am a gardener and my roots go back to a small farm where all of our food was grown organically. I think more people should take responsibility for what they consume by eating as healthy as possible. Growing something to eat, even if it is grown in one pot, is important. I see the co-op as a way of increasing our buying power to afford high quality foods, support local growers, mom-and-pop vendors, and to create jobs. The co-op could also provide a more sociable place to shop.

Rebecca Adams

Grandma Fannie’s Handcrafted Soaps, Owner #104

I want our food dollars to stay within our community. I want a say in what food products we have access to.

Eric Young

Evanston’s La Principal, Owner #619

I joined the co-op because I’m an environmentalist and I know that sourcing food locally is healthier for everyone: the people and the planet.

Erlene Howard

Collective Resource Compost, Owner #756

Being a member of a local food co-op completely aligns with our values. Firstly, making fresh, locally produced food available to our community is essential for health outcomes. Secondly and equally important, participating in a co-op helps grow our community and improves social-emotional health.

Lori Howell

In Fine Fettle , Owner #633

We joined the co-op because, when I found about it, I got very excited at the prospect of having a community-owned grocery in my neighborhood focused on providing great products–local, sustainable, organic with people working together to provide health, happiness, nutrition and a local economy where we can enjoy our shopping experience, meet neighbors, and get involved.

Janice

Uncommon Ground, Owner #200

I joined the co-op to support a neighborhood cause that aligns with my values. I have watched this group grow and evolve over the years and have been impressed with their organization and tenacity.

Christine Bell

Flatts and Sharpe Music Co, Owner #540

As a long-time Rogers Park resident, I was happy to hear about Wild Onion Market and excited to join. A community-owned market is a perfect fit for our community. I am happy that Hooked on Fish can help support Wild Onion Market, and I am pleased to be an Owner.

Karen Wollins

Hooked On Fish, Owner #124

I joined the co-op because I believe our community would relish it. The food industry is mainly controlled by large corporate conglomerates that are driven by profit. This has led to unhealthy and unsustainable practices. A co-op model is values based. As a local restaurant (and now pantry 😉 owner, I am very excited to be a part of a major step forward for our community.

Derek Gaspar

The Lucky Platter (and Platter Pantry), Owner #635

We joined Wild Onion Market because we believe in cooperative ownership and a more just and transparent food system!

Sitka

Salmon Shares, Owner #238

I joined the co-op because buying local and building community is a top priority of mine.

Gail Jarrett

Mindful Evolution, a Holistic Salon, Owner #195
