Dear Co-op Community,

In light of the most recent US Supreme Court opinions, the Board of Wild Onion Market submits this statement.

The Board remains driven and linked to our five Wild Onion values. As part of our community value, we stand for “celebrating community by providing a safe, welcoming, accessible grocery store” in which we work with communities to be empowering; that is, “ensuring fair, ethical, sustainable and empowering practices.”  See https://wildonionmarket.com/our-vision/.

As a very tenant of human dignity and decency, and certainly as a cooperative value, we believe in autotomy over our bodies and our choices.

Building a food cooperative means standing up to corporate bullies who want to control what we feed ourselves and our families. And while this is our “lane”, we want to offer support and visibility to all those personally, deeply, materially, and emotionally affected by the news on Friday June 24th, 2022. We believe here that all people have a right to decide what is right for themselves and their families and we will continue that belief and fight in every way we can.

As a community, while we will continue to push for change, to fight, and refuse to back down, we also hope to continue to build a community and a space where we can take refuge from those who attempt to control us and those who wish power over others’ views and dominion. In our cooperative space, we stand committed to supporting all persons, including those most vulnerable amongst us. We respond by continuing to come together to build our own networks of support, transparency, and belonging. That is the cooperative way, and that is at the core of the Wild Onion Market.
On behalf of the Board of Directors,

Jillian
