We Open in Six Days!

After a decade-plus-long journey, Wild Onion Market will open its doors io the public at noon on Wednesday, June 12! Please join us for a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate this milestone event!

Over ten years ago, we envisioned a Rogers Park cooperative market. Now, after tireless activism, education, community-building, and giving, Wild Onion Market is a concrete reality. What amazing testimony to the power of our community! Profound thanks to everybody who has, in so many ways, enabled us to open the doors of Rogers Park’s first cooperative grocery on June 12th!

Wild Onion Staff Started Work on June 3

After only a few hours of their first day, the market’s new hires have already accomplished so much! Our new staff represent a diverse range of life and work experience, including prior work in the cooperative world. Some live in Rogers Park and can walk to Wild Onion, while others come from all over Chicago. Some were born in the 1950s and others in the 2000s. We are excited to welcome and get to know our new staff!

 We’re Equipped for Heavy Lifting

The market’s new-to-us forklift has been delivered! Wild Onion needs this vital piece of equipment to enable the efficient transport of delivery pallets even though our space cannot accommodate a ramp.

On Monday, June 3rd, we used our new forklift to receive our first shipment from UNFI (United Natural Foods, Inc.). This represents the first order of non-perishables to stock our shelves. Our market has new inventory and we have the means to move it!

Coops Cooperate: Thank You, Outpost

Coops aren’t just about groceries. They’re a way to help create the world we want to live in. So cooperatives help each other.

Thank you so much to the volunteers from Outpost Natural Foods Cooperative in Milwaukee, who came to help us set up the store and stock the shelves. Outpost has been operating for 50 years and has expanded to have multiple locations.

Their experience, as well as that of NCG and coop-focused suppliers, has been invaluable.

Have You Completed Your Installment Plan?

If you are receiving this newsletter, you are an invaluable member of the Wild Onion Market community. We arranged installment payments to make ownership accessible to everyone. Life happens. Maybe you had financial hardships, or your bank or credit card account was compromised. Maybe you’re not sure where you left off.

It would vitally help Wild Onion if you could verify that your $250 owner share contribution is paid in full or confirm that your payment information is up to date. Outstanding equity shares represent a significant portion of our budget, and your support is crucial at this time.  We are a collective, not an anonymous corporation, and your contribution matters!!

Email us at hello@wildonionmarket.com. If you know your payments were stopped and have new payment information, you can include it in your secure email. If you’re not sure of your balance, ask and we will get back to you.

You Can Help Promote Our Coop

In addition to the Evanston Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, we have been greeting people at the Rogers Park Metra stop and the Morse Avenue stop on the CTA Red Line.
