July 2026 Recipient: GirlForward

GirlForward is a community of support for high school girls who have been displaced globally by conflict and persecution. We do this through three core programs: mentoring, tutoring, and safe spaces. In conflict, girls are especially vulnerable to violence, isolation, and being kept out of school. Girls who receive resettlement in the United States face huge challenges: poverty, language barrier, limited or disrupted education, isolation, and trauma.

This is where GirlForward comes in to close the gaps that these girls face upon their resettlement in Chicago. They are located on the border of Rogers Park and Uptown and though we serve girls primarily from Chicago’s Far Northside, many of our girls come from Sullivan High School and Chicago Math and Science Academy High School – both located in Rogers Park.

GirlForward will use the funds to purchase culturally relevant snacks for the girls to enjoy during their drop-in tutoring hours – filling their bellies while filling their minds! They will also use part of the funds to host a workshop as part of their 4W curriculum – wisdom, wallet, wellness, and world.
