7007 N. Clark Update

We had a great turn-out for our store clean-up day! We filled an entire dumpster with miscellaneous items from the store that needed to be removed before we start demolition. The good news is, most of it was either repurposed or will be recycled.

The wheels are turning! We are taking a huge and crucial step in our store’s construction: demolition, starting October 3rd! Since our site was previously a grocery, we’re able to keep much of the equipment and machinery that were already there, BUT there are still parts we need to retire and rebuild to make our community co-op a pleasant and functional place to shop.

Next comes the exterior work, which needs to be completed before the weather gets too cold.  Construction permitting papers have been submitted to the city and the construction team is ready to go once we reach our capital campaign goal!

Feel free to email our site construction lead, Kristin Alexander, with any building questions.

Wild Onion Market representatives are in the process of visiting a number of local farms that will likely be suppliers of our store. On September 15, we had the pleasure of visiting Tulip Tree Gardens in Beecher, IL. We had a lot of fun! Fresh tomatoes, sweet peppers, corn and local pottery were for sale.

Tulip Tree’s farmstand is open year round and is well worth a visit. Tulip Tree’s last weekly farmers market of the season is TODAY, Thursday, 9/29 4-8PM. There will be produce, local eco-friendly vendors, and farm to table food – duck chili and cornbread!

Fall Capital Campaign

A huge thank you to our Spring Capital Campaign team who raised over $500,000 to open our co-operative grocery store. We are getting ready to launch the Fall Campaign Event on Sunday, October 16th and many of our callers will be returning and will be joined by new callers. Our closers did an amazing job of getting documents completed and funds to Wild Onion Market.

There is still time to join the teams, we will be providing training to prepare callers and closers to have a successful Fall Campaign. Please contact mary@wildonionmarket for more information.

Call to Action

It takes a strong community to open a co-op market. Which of these can YOU help with?

  • Capital Campaign callers for our fall campaign! If you have some extra time (evenings and weekends ok!) and want to help get the store open, the most impactful thing you can do is volunteer to make calls to fellow Owners in order to help raise critical funds. There is professional training and support. Contact hello@wildonionmarket.com if interested.
  • Spread the word, the search for our first co-op General Manager has begun! We need to source quality candidates. We’re looking for an entrepreneurial, experienced and passionate business manager. If you know someone who may fit the description, please send them to the following link or refer them to board@wildonionmarket.comMore information and the application is here: http://ow.ly/2ihI50K88JP.
  • Expertise in Marketing, Communications, & PR. We need to refine our communications strategy going into this critical phase of opening the co-op. We’d love to talk to people with relevant expertise! Lend us some advice on how to make sure we are communicating clearly as to where we are and what we need to get the store open – our audiences are Owners, community members, and lending institutions.
  • Donate Funds that go directly to Construction Costs. Your donation is 100% tax-deductible. Donate here.
  • Not yet an Owner? Join us! Purchase a one-time only Owner share for $250 per household/business. To make ownership more affordable, we have various accessibility options, including monthly installments starting at $10, and a scholarship program. Read more about Wild Onion Market.
