This Coffee? It’s Kismet. There’s a new bean in town! Collaborating with Dristin Rose for this conversation felt like kismet—which happens to be the name of our new coffee vendor Kismet Coffee Roasters! Started in 2020 during the global pandemic, when Dristin and his co-founder wanted to make sure they could access their favorite beans during supply chain disruptions.
With beans from Kenya to Brazil to the Sumatra region, Kismet Coffee Roasters is serving up some comforting, reliable cups. Scoop up a bag and try for yourself!

Meet Our Featured Farmer! For Earth Month, we want you to meet some of the people who interact with and are the best stewards of the land—our farmers!
Meet Nick Stridsberg from San Gabriel Ranch! If you’ve had any of the citrus we’ve had in stock lately, it likely came from Nick’s farm. A multi-generational family owned farm, San Gabriel now grows more unusual fruits like mangoes and passionfruit as well as a fun mix of citrus—pomelos, Cara Cara oranges, grapefruits, minneolas—and more.
Meet Women-Owned Businesses this weekend!
This weekend, join us for a Women’s History Month gathering to celebrate and meet some of the women-owned businesses who are bringing nourishing and delicious goods to our community! We’re so excited to have vendors like SydPlayEat, Tasting India, Nemi Sticks, Grandma Fannie’s, Sol Food Natural Soaps, Miicki’s Sweets, and Katherine Anne Confections with us in person. This week, we’re proud to feature Spinach and Scallions from Evan Barry and his Benson, Illinois farm team. Evan studied under local farming legend Henry Brockman of Henry’s Farm before starting his own endeavor. The team at Down River Farm believes the role of the farmer is to steward the land and grow the most nutrient dense food possible. You won’t find the “certified organic” label on their produce, but Down River is a pesticide free operation.

The National Co+op Grocers (NCG), where we’re a member owner, have reached out to us about how to help co-ops impacted by Hurricane Helene. In partnership with the Cooperative Development Foundation (CDF), NCG has set up a matching donation campaign through CDF’s Disaster Recovery Fund to support these members and their staff. We did it! Wild Onion Market is open for business. Thank you to the folks from National Co-op Grocers Association and Sugar Beet Coop who helped us get ready. About 100 people attended our ribbon cutting ceremony, including Vice-President Irv Loundy from Devon Bank, state legislator Kelly Cassidy (D-14th), and Kyle Ryan from Alder Maria Haddon’s office.

Spring Newsletter May 2024
To ensure the success of our coop, we need to continue to spread the word, both to welcome new owners and to let the community know that anyone and everyone is welcome to shop at Wild Onion Market. Therefore, we are planning to publicize the coop at the Evanston Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, Glenwood Sunday Market, beginning June 2nd, and at Metra and CTA Red Line stations in Rogers Park.

A fully stocked, fully staffed Wild Onion Market goes live on June 12! From that date on the co-op will serve the public seven days a week from 8 am to 8 pm. It will be an exciting time to check out the brand new co-op and make it your go-to place for groceries of all types.
